Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kathmandu, Jan 16 (NationPress) With the support of India, new school infrastructure is set to be constructed in the Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City of Rupandehi district and Jayaprithivi Municipality of Bajhang district in Nepal. The foundation stones for these projects were ceremoniously laid on Friday.
The Indian Embassy issued a statement indicating that the foundation stone for the Nayagaun Secondary School building in Butwal was laid on the same day.
Both Suman Shekhar, First Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu, and Khel Raj Pandey, Mayor of Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City, collaboratively laid the foundation stone for this significant project. The Embassy disclosed that Indian financial support amounting to approximately NPR 44 million will be allocated for the construction of this educational infrastructure.
In a similar manner, the foundation stone for the Shree Satyavadi Secondary School’s administrative building and hostel facilities at Bhojpur in Jayaprithivi Municipality, Bajhang district, was laid by Narayan Singh, another First Secretary at the Indian Embassy, along with Chet Raj Bajal, Mayor of Jayaprithivi Municipality.
According to the Embassy's announcement, the Indian government will provide about NPR 139 million for the development of this educational infrastructure.
The newly constructed facilities will feature a three-storey administrative block, separate hostels for both girls and boys complete with toilet facilities, and other related structures.
Both initiatives are classified as High Impact Community Development Projects (HICDPs), with the respective municipalities tasked with their implementation, as confirmed by the Embassy.
Since their inception in 2003, HICDPs have become a vital element of the India–Nepal development collaboration. Initially branded as Small Grant Projects, these initiatives are executed at the grassroots level through local authorities in priority sectors of Nepal’s Government, including health, education, drinking water, sanitation, drainage, rural electrification, hydropower, embankment, and river training.
The Embassy emphasized, “As neighboring countries and development allies, India and Nepal share extensive and diverse cooperation.” The execution of HICDPs underscores the ongoing support from the Government of India in bolstering the efforts of the Government of Nepal towards growth and advancement.
