Toronto, June 16 (NationPress) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up for his visit to Canada for the G7 Summit, the Indian community across the North American country is brimming with enthusiasm and hope. Many individuals are expressing their thoughts on this visit, viewing it as a potential opportunity to reset the strained Indo-Canadian relationship.
This marks PM Modi's first trip to Canada since a year filled with diplomatic challenges, and members of the Indian community perceive it as a pivotal moment for mending ties.
Invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, PM Modi’s attendance at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis has ignited a wave of excitement among residents of Indian descent.
Shilpi, a member of the Indian diaspora, shared her feelings with IANS, stating, "PM Modi's arrival in Canada is a moment of great joy and celebration for us. Words cannot express our happiness. It feels as though one of our own is coming to our land. I am extremely excited and delighted about it."
"It’s also a very encouraging sign that our new Prime Minister has extended this invitation to PM Modi. This will fortify the bilateral relationship between our countries and promote trade. We will also feel content and secure," she added.
Shilpi commended the leadership in India, noting, "The manner in which India is progressing under PM Modi's administration is admirable. India is advancing in every sector, particularly in IT, making significant overall strides under his leadership."
Kajal, another Indian-origin resident in Canada, expressed similar thoughts.
"I feel immense pride that even while residing in Canada, PM Modi has been invited to the G7 Summit. That alone is a significant achievement," she told IANS.
"It’s wonderful that PM Carney invited PM Modi, and that he accepted the invitation. This is a positive development for India-Canada relations, especially after recent tensions. This visit will undoubtedly help rebuild our bilateral ties," she mentioned.
Kajal also emphasized India's global ascent under PM Modi's leadership, stating, "Before PM Modi took office, India was perceived as an underdeveloped nation. Under his guidance, India has achieved remarkable growth and is now the fourth-largest economy globally. It is no longer seen as underdeveloped but as a highly respected nation."
Tripti Soni, another community member, echoed the sentiments of pride, sharing with IANS, "It is a matter of immense pride for every Indian, and as an Indo-Canadian, I believe PM Modi's visit to Canada will improve India-Canada relations."
"We are optimistic that Canada’s relationship with India will thrive from this point on," she added.
Relations between India and Canada reached a historical low in 2023 following then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's unverified allegations against New Delhi, which India firmly rejected.
In retaliation, India accused Canada of harboring extremist factions and failing to act against threats toward Indian diplomats.
With the upcoming summit and PM Modi's visit, both nations now seem ready to move past previous conflicts and embark on a new chapter of collaboration.
