Toronto, June 16 (NationPress) As Prime Minister Narendra Modi gears up for his visit to Canada for the G7 Summit, the Indian community in North America is buzzing with excitement and positivity. Many are expressing their thoughts on this visit, viewing it as a chance to potentially mend the strained Indo-Canadian relations.
This marks PM Modi's first trip to Canada following a year characterized by diplomatic tensions, and many in the Indian diaspora regard it as a pivotal move towards restoring bilateral ties.
Invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney, PM Modi's attendance at the G7 Summit in Kananaskis has ignited a surge of enthusiasm among residents of Indian origin.
Shilpi, a member of the Indian community, shared her feelings with IANS, stating, "PM Modi's arrival in Canada is a source of immense joy and celebration for us. Words cannot capture our happiness. It feels like someone from our family is visiting us. I am incredibly excited and happy about this!"
She further added, "The invitation from our new Prime Minister to PM Modi is a very encouraging indication. It will enhance the bilateral ties between our two nations and promote trade. We will also feel more secure and content."
Praising the progress under PM Modi's leadership, Shilpi commented, "India's growth trajectory under PM Modi is remarkable. The country is making significant advancements across various sectors, especially in IT. Overall, India has achieved substantial progress under his guidance."
Kajal, another Indian-origin individual residing in Canada, shared similar sentiments.
"I take great pride in the fact that even while residing in Canada, PM Modi has received an invitation to the G7 Summit. That alone is a significant achievement," she remarked to IANS.
"It is heartening that PM Carney invited PM Modi, and that PM Modi accepted the invitation. This represents a positive shift for India-Canada relations after the recent diplomatic strains. This visit will certainly help in rebuilding our bilateral ties," she emphasized.
Kajal also noted India's rising stature globally under PM Modi's leadership, stating, "Before PM Modi's tenure, India was viewed as an underdeveloped country. Since he took office, India has experienced extraordinary development and emerged as the fourth-largest economy globally. Now, it is recognized as a respected nation."
Tripti Soni, another member of the community, expressed a collective sentiment, saying to IANS, "This is a moment of great pride for every Indian. As an Indo-Canadian, I believe PM Modi's visit to Canada will significantly improve India-Canada relations."
"We are hopeful that Canada will foster a positive relationship with India moving forward," she added.
The relationship between India and Canada reached a historic low in 2023 when former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made unverified allegations against New Delhi, which India firmly denied.
In response, India accused Canada of harboring extremist elements and failing to take appropriate action against threats to Indian diplomats.
With the upcoming summit and PM Modi's visit, both countries now seem inclined to move past their differences and embark on a new chapter of cooperation.
