Monrovia, June 3 (NationPress) An All-Party Parliamentary Delegation, headed by Shiv Sena MP Shrikant Eknath Shinde, has wrapped up an impactful three-day official trip to Liberia, aiming to bolster India’s global initiative against terrorism and enhance bilateral relations with the West African country.
A press release from the Embassy of India in Liberia emphasized that the visit conveyed a strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its manifestations.
The delegation, comprising MPs Bansuri Swaraj, Atul Garg, Manan Kumar Mishra, Sasmit Patra, E.T. Mohammed Basheer, S.S. Ahluwalia, and former Ambassador Sujan Chinoy, engaged in high-level discussions with prominent Liberian officials from May 31 to June 2.
Meetings were held with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, the President Pro-Tempore of the Senate, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In the discussions with President Boakai, the delegation expressed appreciation for Liberia’s message of condolence and solidarity directed towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Liberian leadership reiterated its backing for India’s counter-terrorism initiatives, including “Operation Sindoor”, stressing the need for unified global action against terror networks.
India welcomed Liberia's forthcoming term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (2026–27). According to the Embassy, the delegation stated that “Liberia’s role from this high platform will be crucial in furthering the fight against the scourge of terrorism”.
A historic milestone of the visit was when Dr. Shinde became the first Indian parliamentarian to address the Liberian Senate. During his speech, he reaffirmed India’s “strong position against cross-border terrorism” and urged for “international unity in addressing this global challenge.”
The delegation also held discussions with Liberian parliamentarians, think tanks, and local media representatives. Topics included democratic collaboration, counter-terrorism strategies, and mutual values of peace and respect.
The Embassy stated, “The visit not only showcased the lasting friendship between India and Liberia, but also underlined the two nations' consistent stance against terrorism.”
This visit followed the terrorist incident in Pahalgam on April 22 and is part of efforts to expose Pakistan-backed terrorism.
The trip concluded with both parties reaffirming their dedication to collaborate in constructing a peaceful, secure, and terrorism-free world.
