Nicosia, April 4 (NationPress) The Indian High Commissioner to Cyprus, Manish, met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia on Saturday. They reviewed the preparations for the President's upcoming visit to India in May 2026, extended at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Indian Embassy in Cyprus reported that both parties engaged in discussions regarding the key objectives outlined in the India–Cyprus Joint Action Plan, emphasizing the need to enhance collaboration in various sectors such as trade, investment, innovation, and connectivity. This dialogue builds upon the momentum established during Prime Minister Modi's visit to Cyprus in June 2025.

Furthermore, they explored advancements in critical areas like defence and security, renewable energy, digital transformation, fintech, and maritime collaboration. Both sides reiterated the necessity to strengthen people-to-people connections through academic and cultural initiatives, as highlighted by the Indian Embassy on X.

In October of last year, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos evaluated the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029 during their meeting in New Delhi.

“I was pleased to welcome FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus in New Delhi today. We reviewed the India-Cyprus Joint Action Plan 2025-2029, which was agreed upon during PM Modi’s visit to Cyprus in June 2025. Our discussions also touched on the global geopolitical landscape, regional developments, and our collaboration in multilateral forums. As Cyprus assumes the European Union presidency in 2026, we are optimistic about the strengthening of India-EU relations,” EAM Jaishankar shared on X after the meeting.

Earlier in June 2025, during his visit to Cyprus, PM Modi extended an invitation to President Christodoulides to visit India.

During their discussions at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, both leaders examined pathways to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, security, and technology.

They acknowledged the crucial role of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) as a transformative, multi-faceted initiative promoting peace, economic integration, and sustainable development.

Viewing IMEC as a catalyst for constructive regional cooperation, they reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stability in the Eastern Mediterranean and the broader Middle East, emphasizing the importance of enhancing engagement and connectivity from the Indian subcontinent through the Middle East to Europe.
