New Delhi, Oct 29 (NationPress) The Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Constantinos Kombos, has landed in New Delhi for a three-day official engagement.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, greeted Kombos warmly, noting that this visit presents a chance to assess the progress of the India-Cyprus Action Plan 2025-2029 and to deliberate on the Comprehensive Partnership.
Jaiswal shared on X, "A warm welcome to FM Constantinos Kombos of the Republic of Cyprus on his first official visit to India. An opportunity to review progress in implementation of IN-CY Action Plan 2025-29 and discuss the Comprehensive Partnership."
During his stay, Kombos is expected to engage in discussions with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar and deliver a lecture this Thursday.
Last month, EAM Jaishankar and Kombos met during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, where they evaluated the advancements in bilateral relations since Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Cyprus earlier this year.
"Always great meeting FM Constantinos Kombos of Cyprus. Reviewed the progress in bilateral ties since the successful visit of PM Narendra Modi. Appreciate his insights on developments in Europe," Jaishankar remarked on X after their meeting.
PM Modi's trip to Cyprus in June marked the first by an Indian Prime Minister to the nation in over two decades, during which several agreements were finalized.
During this visit, Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides awarded PM Modi the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia.
Christodoulides also guided PM Modi through the ceasefire line in the historic city of Nicosia.
"Tour with the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi along the ceasefire line, in old Nicosia. Where the signs of the Turkish occupation remain visible," the Government of the Republic of Cyprus posted on X, accompanying it with photographs of the two leaders.
PM Modi's visit was particularly significant amid rising tensions between India and Turkey, stemming from Turkey's support for Pakistan.
Disputes over Turkey's recognition of the so-called Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, established after Turkish forces seized the northern area in 1974, and ongoing disagreements regarding gas exploration rights in the Eastern Mediterranean contribute to the strain between Turkey and Cyprus.
