PM-Kisan 23rd instalment: ₹1,320 crore reaches 66 lakh Rajasthan farmers
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, 20 June released the 23rd instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme from West Bengal, transferring more than ₹18,880 crore directly into the bank accounts of over 9.44 crore farmers across India. Of this, more than ₹1,320 crore was credited to over 66 lakh farmers in Rajasthan alone, providing a timely financial boost ahead of the Kharif sowing season.
Rajasthan's Share of the 23rd Instalment
The transfer to Rajasthan's farming community marks one of the larger state-level disbursements under this round. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma joined the national event via video conferencing from the Town Hall in Sumerpur, Pali district, where he addressed a state-level gathering of farmers, officials, and public representatives.
Sharma noted that the funds, released during the critical Kharif sowing window, would directly assist farmers in meeting agricultural input costs — seeds, fertilisers, and field preparation. He credited the Jan Dhan-Aadhaar-Mobile (JAM) framework with ensuring leakage-free, direct benefit transfers, eliminating intermediaries from the disbursement chain.
Cumulative Impact Since 2019
Since the PM-Kisan scheme was launched in 2019, more than ₹4.46 lakh crore has been transferred directly to farmers' bank accounts nationwide, according to the Chief Minister. The agricultural budget at the Centre has seen a nearly six-fold increase, crossing ₹1.30 lakh crore, he added.
Notably, the Rajasthan government has topped up the central PM-Kisan assistance, raising the annual benefit from ₹6,000 to ₹9,000 per farmer — providing an additional ₹3,000 annually to eligible beneficiaries in the state.
Broader Agricultural Initiatives in Rajasthan
Sharma highlighted several concurrent programmes reinforcing the state's agricultural ecosystem. Rajasthan has emerged as a leading state under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, with over 2.19 crore insurance policies issued and claim settlements exceeding ₹6,500 crore disbursed to farmers. Farmers in 26 districts of the state are now receiving daytime electricity supply to support irrigation.
Under the Gopal Credit Card Yojana, loans worth ₹709 crore have been sanctioned to more than 94,000 livestock-rearing families. Additionally, over 20 lakh animals have been registered under the Mangla Pashu Bima Yojana, and wheat farmers are receiving a bonus of ₹150 per quintal on government procurement.
Schemes Underpinning the Agricultural Push
The Chief Minister cited a cluster of central schemes — including the PM-KUSUM Yojana, Soil Health Card Scheme, Kisan Credit Card, e-NAM, and Namo Drone Didi — as collectively reshaping the agricultural value chain from seed procurement to market access over the past 12 years.
Animal Husbandry and Dairy Minister Joraram Kumawat also addressed the gathering, underlining the role of the double-engine government in delivering welfare schemes to farmers, women, and youth at the grassroots level.
On the Ground in Sumerpur
Ahead of the main event, Chief Minister Sharma visited an Urban Service Camp in Sumerpur, inspecting departmental stalls, reviewing scheme implementation, and distributing financial assistance cheques to beneficiaries of the PM SVANidhi Scheme. The event was attended by several ministers, Members of Parliament, and legislators from the region.
With the 23rd instalment now credited, all eyes will be on beneficiary verification outcomes and whether the Kharif season translates into improved farm income data — the true measure of PM-Kisan's on-ground impact.
