New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) The cleantech sector in India, which encompasses a wide range of products, services, and processes, has rapidly become one of the nation's most dynamic talent markets. According to a recent report, hiring in this industry has surged by 56.6 percent over the last two years.

Although there may be a slight slowdown in the short term, workforce growth remains robust, with a year-on-year (YoY) increase of 13.4 percent. This shift indicates a transition from a focus on capital investment to a more execution-oriented approach, as noted by CIEL HR in their latest findings.

The report also highlighted a significant gender disparity, revealing that women represent only 11 percent of the overall workforce and 15 percent of leadership positions.

Furthermore, the study pointed out that metropolitan areas dominate hiring trends, with the Delhi NCR region alone accounting for 44 percent of total job openings.

In contrast, Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities have emerged as important hubs, contributing 30 percent of job opportunities. Other major cities include Mumbai (9 percent), Bengaluru (6 percent), Pune (5 percent), and other metropolitans (6 percent).

CIEL HR also noted that India produces over one million engineering graduates each year. However, they cautioned that the talent pool does not align well with the advanced skills needed in areas like renewable energy systems, energy storage technologies, and grid integration.

Aditya Narayan Mishra, Managing Director and CEO of CIEL HR, expressed concerns about the ongoing challenges of talent shortages, skill mismatches, and the underrepresentation of women, which are significant barriers to the sector's future growth.

Additionally, nearly 48 percent of available roles offer annual salaries exceeding Rs 10 lakh, in contrast to 40 percent within the IT sector.

The workforce in this sector exhibits high mobility, with a median tenure of just 2.7 years, according to the consultancy firm. This is largely because professionals are often recruited for specific growth phases, such as project execution or commercialisation.

Moreover, the report highlights that India's clean technology market generated revenues of $63,431.5 million in 2024 and is anticipated to grow to $152,534.8 million by 2030, representing a CAGR of 16.1 percent between 2025 and 2030.

The government aims for a target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, which includes 280 GW from solar and 140 GW from wind energy, according to the report.
