Rohtak, Oct 3 (NationPress) Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah stated on Friday that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is advancing towards becoming a developed nation, and the country will attain global leadership by the time it marks the centenary of its independence in 2047.

"As we celebrate the centenary of India's independence, the nation will establish its global leadership, with khadi playing a crucial role. Khadi and village industries are evolving into a formidable platform for millions of weavers," he remarked.

Minister Shah made these comments while engaging with artisans during the Khadi Mahotsav, which took place at the Maharshi Dayanand University campus in Haryana.

Alongside Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, he distributed modern machinery, toolkits, and margin funds totaling Rs 301 crore under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), motivating artisans to pursue self-reliance through Swadeshi.

He also inaugurated PMEGP units, a central wool processing facility, and buildings for khadi and village industries virtually, including the newly constructed office and warehouse of KVIC in Panchkula.

Shah noted that previous administrations neglected khadi and village industries after independence.

He recalled how when Prime Minister Modi served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he committed to revitalize khadi and worked on restoring KVIC.

Thanks to the Prime Minister's dedication to khadi and his connection with weavers, the khadi market has surged from Rs 33,000 crore to Rs 1.70 lakh crore in just over a decade.

He highlighted that this increased revenue has benefited the weavers directly, rather than capitalists or private industrialists.

Shah emphasized that KVIC has developed excellent packaging and marketing strategies.

During the event, he expressed satisfaction in distributing 12 types of advanced machinery, including automatic charkhas and leather machines, along with financial support for the weavers.

The Union Cooperation Minister stated that the vision of 'swaraj' at the time of independence was incomplete without 'swadeshi' and 'swabhasha'.

In this context, Prime Minister Modi has motivated 140 crore Indians to embrace indigenous products.

He noted that the Aatmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) concept and the 'swadeshi' movement will be advantageous for every citizen.

Furthermore, he shared that the Prime Minister recently reduced the GST on over 395 items, providing a Diwali gift to the populace.

Shah asserted that khadi is pivotal in bolstering the nation’s economy, and alongside 'khadi for nation', there should also be 'khadi for fashion', with active involvement from all Indians. He encouraged attendees at the festival to adopt khadi, promote indigenous products, and contribute to the nation's self-reliance.

Chief Minister Saini welcomed the Union Home Minister's comments, stating, "Khadi is our heritage, and khadi products are swiftly transitioning from local to global markets.”

He remarked that khadi and village industries have now become a robust means for a self-reliant India.

Under the guidance of Prime Minister Modi, khadi has reached unprecedented growth levels and is gaining international recognition. He described the Khadi Mahotsav as a celebration of Aatmanirbhar Bharat, driven by Prime Minister Modi's vision.
