Key Takeaways
New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar remarked on Saturday that India has adeptly managed recent global challenges, particularly referencing the current turmoil in West Asia and its broader economic implications. In his speech at the IIM Raipur convocation, EAM Jaishankar emphasized that India has effectively tackled both domestic and international hurdles "with considerable success" amidst a volatile global landscape.
He highlighted that the impacts of conflicts are now experienced well beyond their localities, showcasing the profound interdependence fostered by globalisation.
“It is undeniable that various global disruptions have recently tested our resilience, and India has navigated through them remarkably well,” he asserted.
The minister pointed out that the crisis in West Asia, which escalated in February following US and Israeli actions against Iran, has disrupted global fuel supply chains, leading to shortages in hydrocarbons.
Jaishankar also emphasized that strengthening domestic capabilities is the most effective strategy to mitigate risks and enhance strategic advantages.
He noted the shifting dynamics of the global order, characterized by evolving power balances and influences, asserting that the ongoing turbulence is fundamentally structural.
According to him, rapid advancements in technology, energy, military capabilities, connectivity, and resources have intensified competition among nations.
“Today, everything is being utilized, if not weaponized,” he remarked.
This situation has necessitated a greater focus on risk management, diversification, and resilience in both economic strategies and foreign policy, as highlighted by him.
EAM Jaishankar identified the Covid-19 pandemic, ongoing conflicts, and climate change as the pivotal challenges of this decade. He added that fostering more inclusive growth, representative governance, and decisive leadership is essential for building a robust foundation to confront these disruptions.
