Tehran, April 6 (NationPress) India has underscored the necessity of reinstating stability and security in West Asia while expressing its backing for current endeavors to halt the ongoing conflict, as stated by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
During a phone discussion on Sunday, External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, to deliberate on the latest developments regarding the situation in West Asia.
According to a statement from Iran's Foreign Ministry, "Iran's Foreign Minister pointed to what he termed as severe offenses perpetrated by US and Israeli forces against the Iranian populace—these include assaults on industrial and production facilities, alongside peaceful nuclear sites safeguarded by international regulations. He also noted the persistent aggressive rhetoric from US officials openly threatening assaults on Iran's energy infrastructure."
Araghchi emphasized the duty of the international community and the United Nations to "combat violations of international law and prevent the normalization of war crimes."
The Iranian Foreign Minister reaffirmed the "strong resolve" of the nation's citizens and military forces to safeguard national interests and security, cautioning against the broader implications of US and Israeli military actions for both regional and global stability.
As highlighted in the Ministry's statement, "India's Foreign Minister acknowledged the significance of restoring stability and security in the region and voiced support for ongoing regional and international initiatives aimed at ceasing the conflict."
Earlier on Sunday, EAM Jaishankar mentioned that he had received a call from Araghchi, during which they exchanged views on the current situation in the region.
In a post on X, he stated, "Received a call from Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran. Discussed the present situation." However, he did not provide further details regarding their conversation.
This interaction occurs amidst escalating tensions in West Asia, especially concerning the Strait of Hormuz, a vital global oil transit route. The area has witnessed increased military activity and intense rhetoric from various parties, raising concerns about a potential broader conflict.
