Gorakhpur, June 21 (NationPress) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath remarked on Saturday that Yoga is an eternal treasure of Indian wisdom that has emerged as a global emblem of wellness.
Emphasizing that nearly 190 nations have embraced India’s yoga heritage, the Chief Minister noted, “Yoga is a magnificent practice rooted in India’s sage tradition that promotes both physical and mental health.”
This morning, UP CM Yogi Adityanath spearheaded the International Yoga Day festivities in the state by conducting a large yoga session at the Gorakhnath Temple, joined by thousands of volunteers and yoga aficionados.
Speaking to the yoga practitioners at Mahant Digvijaynath Memorial Hall within the Gorakhnath Temple grounds, he asserted that by advocating yoga as a means for public welfare, India has presented the world with a roadmap to holistic health.
Quoting the ancient wisdom “Sharir madhyam khalu dharma sadhanam” - the body is indeed the means to achieve Dharma - he highlighted that all four aims of human existence, Dharma, Artha, Kama, and Moksha, are grounded in physical well-being. He pointed out that a healthy body is crucial not only for achieving material success and personal satisfaction but also for spiritual growth.
He elaborated that yoga is essential in maintaining physical health to pursue these aspirations. India has consistently leveraged yoga for public well-being, guiding the global community toward universal wellness.
“Currently, we witness various dimensions of yoga. India’s rich tradition has enlightened the world with elevated states of consciousness through yoga. From developing personality to unraveling the mysteries of existence, this vast reservoir of yoga knowledge is preserved in our Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, Smritis, and other sacred scriptures,” the Chief Minister added.
He further acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for revitalizing and globalizing India’s ancient yoga practice.
“While other nations were trying to patent yoga postures, PM Modi took a groundbreaking step to achieve global recognition for yoga through the United Nations. Consequently, International Yoga Day has been celebrated globally every year since June 21, 2015, with participation from 190 countries today,” he stated.
“International Yoga Day serves as a tribute to our sacred heritage and ensures future generations remain connected to this rich tradition,” he concluded.
He also emphasized yoga’s therapeutic benefits, quoting the Sanskrit verse, “Na tasya rogo na jara na mrityuh praptasya yogagrimayam shareeram,” which translates to a body refined through yoga is liberated from ailments, aging, and even death.
