Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) announced on Friday that the budget airline IndiGo has asserted that it has successfully processed and finalized all refunds for the cancellations of its flights that occurred between December 3-5 last year.
As per the aviation authority, the airline has confirmed that all refunds related to IndiGo flight cancellations during the December 3-5, 2025 period have been completely processed back to the original payment methods.
“Furthermore, passengers whose flights were canceled within a 24-hour window prior to the scheduled departure during this period are eligible to claim compensation, where applicable,” stated the DGCA in its notification.
Additionally, as a supportive gesture towards impacted travelers, IndiGo has prolonged its 'Gesture of Care (GoC)' initiative for those affected.
This entails offering two travel vouchers worth Rs 5,000 each (totaling Rs 10,000), valid for up to 12 months.
“This is applicable for passengers whose flights were canceled or delayed by more than three hours during December 3-5, 2025,” the airline mentioned.
Passengers are encouraged to verify their eligibility and submit their information to avail the 'Gesture of Care' vouchers. It is also recommended that travelers ensure their contact information, including mobile numbers and email addresses, is accurate at the time of booking, whether through the airline’s website or a travel agent, as per the DGCA note.
The extensive flight cancellations by IndiGo, particularly during December 3-5, left countless passengers stranded across the country. The airline canceled thousands of flights due to inadequate pilot roster management and a lack of preparation for stricter safety regulations.
“The operational landscape faced significant industry-wide challenges this year, with IndiGo experiencing considerable operational disruptions during December 3-5, 2025, which regrettably affected the airline’s esteemed customers, for which IndiGo has sincerely apologized,” stated the airline in its year-end report. The airline emphasized its commitment to enhancing its operational processes and resilience.
The government had subjected the airline to rigorous scrutiny following days of disruptions that severely impacted domestic air travel.
