Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Dec 6 (NationPress) The Ministry of Civil Aviation has officially instructed IndiGo to finalize all outstanding passenger refunds by 8 PM on Sunday. This directive comes in response to the ongoing flight disruptions faced by the airline, which has seen cancellations of 405 domestic flights over the last five days.
In a public statement, the Ministry emphasized, "The refund procedures for all cancelled or disrupted flights must be concluded by 8:00 PM on Sunday, December 7." Furthermore, airlines have been advised to refrain from imposing any rescheduling fees on passengers affected by these cancellations.
The Ministry warned that any delays or failure to comply with the refund processes could result in immediate regulatory actions.
Moreover, the government has mandated IndiGo to locate and return any baggage that has been separated from passengers to their residences or preferred addresses within the next 48 hours.
“Airlines are required to ensure transparent communication with passengers regarding the tracking and delivery of their luggage, along with providing compensation as stipulated by existing passenger rights regulations,” the Ministry stated.
Additionally, the government has instructed the airline to establish dedicated support and refund facilitation teams to enhance grievance redressal measures.
These teams will be responsible for proactively reaching out to affected travelers and ensuring that refunds and alternative travel solutions are processed with minimal follow-ups. The automatic refund system will remain operational until normal services resume.
“The Ministry of Civil Aviation is in continuous collaboration with airlines, airports, security organizations, and all relevant operational stakeholders to safeguard passenger rights during this challenging period,” the statement concluded.
This initiative is aimed at ensuring proper assistance for senior citizens, differently-abled passengers, students, patients, and anyone needing urgent travel.
The government reiterated its commitment to restoring complete operational normalcy at the earliest opportunity.
