Jerusalem, Nov 18 (NationPress) Israel President Isaac Herzog expressed his support for the United Nations Security Council’s (UNSC) recent approval of a US-backed resolution aimed at establishing an International Stabilization Force in Gaza, as part of US President Donald Trump’s 20-point strategy. He hailed this as a significant diplomatic milestone that should pave the way for a positive future in Gaza and the greater region.
During a memorial event at Har Herzl military cemetery honoring those who lost their lives in Israel’s 1956 Sinai Campaign, Herzog stated: "I applaud the UNSC’s resolution from last night, which endorses [Trump’s] plan."
He continued, "This is a transformative diplomatic success attributed to President Trump — a success that ought to guide us toward 'the day after' — not just in Gaza, but across the region as a whole."
The Times of Israel reported that President Herzog emphasized how this UNSC-backed initiative has significantly facilitated the return of hostages and stressed that it is essential to dismantle Hamas’s arsenal and eliminate its governance role.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also welcomed the UNSC’s endorsement of the US-backed resolution to create an International Stabilization Force. He asserted that Trump’s proposal is a pathway to peace and prosperity, emphasizing the need for demilitarization, disarmament, and deradicalization in Gaza.
A statement from the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office acknowledged Trump and his dedicated team for their contributions. It noted that the bravery and sacrifices of Israeli soldiers, combined with Trump’s diplomatic initiatives, have led to the safe return of living hostages and most of the deceased ones.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, "The United Nations Security Council has fully endorsed President Trump’s 20 Point Plan and the establishment of a Board of Peace led by him. We firmly believe that this plan will usher in peace and prosperity through comprehensive demilitarization, disarmament, and deradicalization in Gaza."
Netanyahu added that Israel anticipates receiving the last three deceased hostages from Gaza “without delay” and aims to initiate the disarmament and demilitarization processes in the Gaza Strip while ending Hamas’s control over the area. The statement further conveyed, "Israel extends its hand in peace and prosperity to all neighbors, urging normalization of relations with Israel and collaboration in expelling Hamas and its supporters from the region."
