Varanasi, March 20 (NationPress) The president of BJP Yuva Morcha in the city, Rajat Jaiswal, has claimed that he has been threatened with death via international phone calls, emails, and social media messages after he lodged a formal complaint about non-vegetarian food waste being discarded into the Ganga river in Varanasi during an Iftar event.

In a conversation with IANS, Jaiswal recounted that he received an international call from a person speaking in Pakistani Punjabi, followed by an email stating that approximately 25–30 individuals wished to engage him in a debate.

“A few days ago, I got a call from someone speaking in Pakistani Punjabi. Subsequently, an email was sent to me mentioning that around 25–30 individuals wanted to debate with me. I have reported this to the authorities, and they are providing me with full support,” Jaiswal stated.

He further asserted that he has been subjected to abusive comments and death threats on social media platforms as well.

“I am receiving threats and insults from a specific community on social media. Although the police arranged for my security, I declined it,” Jaiswal shared with IANS.

After the threats were made, he filed a report with the police, who assured him of their full cooperation in the investigation.

The police have begun an inquiry to trace the international phone numbers and email addresses associated with the threats.

The controversy began when Jaiswal submitted a complaint alleging that non-vegetarian food was consumed and its leftovers were thrown into the Ganga during an Iftar gathering on a boat, which he claimed offended the religious sentiments of followers of Sanatan Dharma.

In response to the complaint, law enforcement apprehended 14 young individuals believed to be part of the group that organized the Iftar on the river. They were subsequently presented in court and placed in judicial custody until April 1.
