New Delhi, Oct 10 (NationPress) India's iconic spinner Anil Kumble lauded opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for his impressive innings of 173 not out during the first day of the second Test against the West Indies. He emphasized that the left-handed batsman stands a good chance to achieve his first triple century on Saturday.
In his 25-Test career, Jaiswal has accumulated more than 2000 runs, including seven centuries and 12 half-centuries since his entry into international cricket against the West Indies two years ago. Notably, five of his seven centuries have surpassed the 150-run mark.
Impressively, Jaiswal's first four hundreds all exceeded 150 runs, making him the second player in history after Graeme Smith to accomplish this extraordinary feat. The only exceptions were during his two centuries in England earlier this year, where both scores were under 150.
“Jaiswal is consistently improving. We've discussed his determination and approach to building substantial innings, not just for himself, but for the team as well. In the last match, he started strong but got out early; he certainly compensated for that here,” Kumble mentioned on JioHotstar's ‘Amul Cricket Live’.
“Throughout his brief career, he has demonstrated that he capitalizes on opportunities. When he’s in form, he makes it count, which is fantastic to witness. He’s still batting and can score significant runs tomorrow.
“As Sai Sudharsan pointed out, they intend to bat as long as possible. Shubman Gill expressed at the toss that they aim to accumulate runs, and that’s precisely what the Indian batters achieved on Day 1. Jaiswal now has a tremendous opportunity not just for a double century, but potentially even a triple century tomorrow,” he added.
Jaiswal was supported well by Sai Sudharsan, who scored a commendable 87, while captain Shubman Gill remained not out on 20 as India closed the day at 318/2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
