Patna, March 27 (NationPress) Bihar BJP President Dilip Jaiswal criticized RJD chief Lalu Prasad for his support of the protests against the Waqf Amendment Bill, labeling it as "opposition for the sake of it." Jaiswal claimed that the opposition was endorsing issues without properly evaluating their merits.

In an interview with IANS, he stated, "Every reform has its pros and cons. If the Waqf Bill is being amended for the better, why oppose it just to appease a specific community?"

He accused RJD leaders of participating in the protests to "satisfy their Muslim brothers."

Making a historical comparison, Jaiswal pointed out that the amendment is akin to past reforms in Sanatan Dharma. "We once had the Sati Pratha, which was abolished when society recognized its wrongness. Likewise, if the Waqf Bill needs modifications, they should be embraced. Political choices should be based on merit, not appeasement," he told IANS.

Jaiswal praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his leadership, referencing the Modi Kit initiative and his inclusive governance. "PM Modi sees all 140 crore Indians as one family. For 70 years, Congress kept Muslims in fear, falsely asserting that the BJP would harm them. But under Modi's guidance, there have been no riots, and our Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb has flourished," he noted.

He underscored that India belongs to all communities -- Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, and Christians -- who deserve to live in harmony. "The Prime Minister's vision promotes national unity," he added.

Earlier on the same day, RJD chief Lalu Prasad and Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav joined the protests organized by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 in Patna.

Speaking to the protesters at Gardanibagh, Tejashwi Yadav stated: "We are standing with all of you with full strength in the fight for Muslims. Lalu Prasad has come to support you even in his ill state."

He accused the central government of attempting to "disrupt the country and undermine democracy," describing it as an "attack" on the very essence of the Constitution.
