Patna, April 4 (NationPress) Bihar BJP President, Dilip Jaiswal, made a pointed remark at former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Yadav, stating that the NDA government has accomplished the long-awaited aspiration of the RJD leader. This comment followed the approval of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 by both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha after extensive discussions.
In an interview with IANS, Dilip Jaiswal mentioned, "Opposition leaders frequently change their positions like chameleons. You may remember that in 2010, Lalu Yadav ji expressed his concerns in the House regarding the misappropriation and sale of Waqf properties.
"He proposed the implementation of a tax law to tackle this issue. Now, the NDA government has turned that aspiration into reality.
"While he also pushed for making it a cognizable offence, we didn’t take that step. Therefore, all opposition leaders should express gratitude to Lalu ji, as the concerns he raised in 2010 have been addressed today. It’s quite ironic how Lalu Yadav’s views have evolved over the years.
On the other hand, the RJD President vehemently opposed the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. Expressing his regret for not being present in Parliament during the discussions, Lalu Yadav remarked, "I regret that I am not in Parliament right now; otherwise, I alone would have been sufficient to contest against this Bill.
He accused the BJP and RSS of trying to seize Waqf lands, stating, "The Sanghi (RSS)-BJP factions aim to confiscate Muslim lands, but we have always fought to safeguard them through stringent laws.
Dilip Jaiswal extended his congratulations to impoverished and marginalized Muslims, particularly the Pasmanda and Barelvi communities, on the Bill's passage.
"This amendment, which has been passed through a democratic process, demonstrates the NDA government's commitment to addressing the needs of ordinary people, legal practitioners, and the parliamentary framework. I congratulate them, as this will empower underprivileged Muslims, enabling them to reclaim Waqf properties that have been misused," he added.
The Rajya Sabha approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025 early on Friday with 128 votes in favor and 95 against, following a vigorous debate.
The Lok Sabha had passed the Bill just a day earlier after nearly 12 hours of discussions.
After the Bill’s passage, Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) Chairman Jagdambika Pal expressed his satisfaction, describing it as a "day of celebration," praising the government’s dedication to social and economic progress.
