Patna, March 26 (NationPress) RJD leader Lalu Prasad and the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly Tejashwi Yadav participated in a nationwide demonstration organized by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024 in Patna.

Speaking to the crowd at Gardanibagh, Tejashwi asserted: "We stand with all of you with unwavering strength in the battle for the rights of Muslims. Lalu Prasad has come to offer his support, even in his fragile health condition."

He criticized the central government for its attempts to "fracture the nation and undermine democracy," labeling it an "assault" on the core principles of the Constitution.

"There are attempts to dismantle the Constitution. We are individuals who cherish the Constitution and the Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb. We will do everything in our power to prevent this bill from being enacted," Tejashwi declared.

Tejashwi revealed that RJD lawmakers tried to initiate a discussion regarding the bill by proposing an adjournment motion in both the Bihar Legislative Assembly and Legislative Council. However, due to the uproar, the House proceedings were suspended.

"We are protesting across the board against this 'unconstitutional' Waqf (Amendment) Bill—whether in the Bihar Vidhan Sabha or the Legislative Council. Today, we called for a discussion, but the House had to be adjourned," he remarked.

Tejashwi also highlighted that when the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) visited Bihar, RJD leaders voiced their opposition to the bill.

"When the JPC visited Bihar, our party members firmly conveyed their stance that this bill should not be approved. If any legislation contradicts the Constitution, everyone must unite against it," he added.

"It is regrettable that certain parties back this bill merely to cling to power. No amount of condemnation can suffice for this," he said, indirectly referring to the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular) and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).

Lalu's public appearance, despite his health challenges, signifies RJD's approach to strengthen its Muslim-Yadav (MY) voter coalition ahead of the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections.
