Srinagar, Sep 23 (NationPress) The Jammu and Kashmir cabinet officially recommended to Lt Governor Manoj Sinha to schedule the Legislative Assembly's autumn session for October 13.
During the cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, attendance was full with all ministers present.
According to sources, several significant decisions were made during this session. The cabinet has advised the Lieutenant Governor to convene the Assembly on October 13.
In the previous session, three resolutions concerning statehood were rendered null due to disruptions instigated by the National Conference, following the dismissal of an adjournment motion proposed by its legislators regarding the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025.
The topic of reservations was also a recurring theme in the discussions during the last Assembly session.
On Tuesday, the cabinet reiterated its recommendation to the L-G for convening the Assembly session. Since the previous session's last meeting was on April 29, and given the stipulation that no more than six months should elapse between sessions, the upcoming session must occur before October 28.
Statehood and reservation issues are anticipated to take center stage when the Assembly reconvenes on October 13. It is expected that the session will be short-lived, likely spanning just seven days, from October 13 to October 20.
The Jammu & Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019 mandates that there should not be a gap exceeding six months between the last sitting of one session and the first sitting of the subsequent session.
“The Lieutenant Governor shall, from time to time, summon the Legislative Assembly to meet at such time and place as he thinks fit, but six months shall not intervene between its last sitting in one session and the date appointed for its first sitting in the next session,” states the Act.
Attending the meeting was J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, who serves as the ex officio secretary of the cabinet. The chief secretary plays a crucial role in providing secretarial support to the cabinet, facilitating coordination among ministries, and ensuring the effective implementation of decisions by acting as a policy coordination center.
