Jammu, March 4 (NationPress) In a recent update to the Legislative Assembly, the Jammu and Kashmir government disclosed that there are currently 32,474 job vacancies within various departments of the Union Territory.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, in his official response to a query from Sajad Gani Lone, the MLA representing the Handwara constituency in Kupwara district, stated that as of January 31, 2025, the total number of vacancies stands at 32,474.
Among these, 2,503 are positions for gazetted officers, while 19,214 are for non-gazetted ranks, and 10,757 are designated for multi-tasking staff.
Since the government led by Omar Abdullah assumed office on October 16, 2024, a total of 3,727 vacancies have been forwarded to the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) and the J&K Public Service Commission (PSC).
Of the vacancies referred, 1,754 are for non-gazetted roles, 1,235 for multi-tasking positions, and 738 for gazetted officers.
The Chief Minister also mentioned that Rs 14.17 crore was collected in examination fees from candidates participating in recruitment tests managed by JKSSB and PSC.
When questioned about the possibility of providing free job application forms, the government confirmed that there is currently no such proposal under consideration.
It is important to note that due to the lack of an industrial support base for employment, pursuing government jobs in J&K or relocating elsewhere for work remains the sole option for educated and trained youth, unless they choose to become self-employed in sectors such as trade, horticulture, agriculture, IT, and other service areas.
To empower the youth of J&K to become job creators instead of job seekers, the Government of India has launched significant self-employment initiatives, providing educated and trained local youth with access to advice, financial assistance, and technical guidance.
Additionally, the J&K government, in partnership with the Centre, is implementing complementary self-employment support programs aimed at creating job opportunities for local youth interested in revitalizing traditional arts and crafts of J&K.
