Guwahati, May 3 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, officially welcomed a distinguished Japanese delegation led by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nukaga Fukushiro, on Saturday.
This prominent 45-member delegation arrived in Guwahati for a three-day exploration of Assam.
Chief Minister Sarma described this visit as a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between Assam and Japan.
During the reception at his office in Lok Sewa Bhawan, Sarma expressed, "It is a privilege to host the Speaker and his team in our beautiful Assam. This visit symbolizes the deepening bond between Assam and Japan and will inspire Japanese enterprises to consider Assam and the surrounding Northeastern states for enhanced collaboration."
Sarma noted that this visit would invigorate Assam's strategic partnership with Japan, particularly in the context of the Advantage Assam 2.0 investment summit held in Guwahati in February.
He briefed Nukaga Fukushiro on the robust business environment in Assam.
Reflecting on his visit to Japan earlier this year, prior to the Infrastructure Summit, Sarma conveyed Assam's preparedness to establish a Japanese Language and Testing Centre at the ASEAN One Technical Centre in Amingaon, Kamrup district.
Expressing gratitude to the Speaker for his visit, Sarma remarked, "This event transcends a mere visit; it embodies a symbol of connection between our peoples and future collaborations."
Sarma also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in the Japanese delegation's visit, stating it would enable Assam and other Northeastern states to benefit from the growing bilateral ties between India and Japan.
Earlier, Assam Chief Secretary Ravi Kota delivered an extensive presentation highlighting Assam's thriving business landscape and potential collaboration opportunities, showcasing Assam's strategic position as a gateway to 35% of the world's population.
He emphasized various prospects across industries, tourism, skill development, employment, mining, environment, education, the Act East Policy, innovation, startups, and health.
The event was also attended by State Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Chief Secretary Ravi Kota, Keiichi ONO, the Japanese Ambassador to India, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister K.K. Dwivedi, high-ranking officials, and numerous dignitaries.
The Japanese delegation was earlier welcomed at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport by Assembly Speaker Biswajit Daimary, Minister Nandita Gorlosa, and senior officials.
As part of their itinerary, the delegation will meet with the Chief Minister and engage with elected representatives at the Assembly. They will also visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Guwahati, and the Tata Semiconductor and Testing Facility at Jagiroad on Sunday. Before concluding their visit on Monday, they will examine projects funded by Japanese financial support.
