Guwahati, Jan 23 (NationPress) In an effort to enhance Assam-Japan relations through shared cultural values and collaborative efforts, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, currently on a three-day trip to Japan, met with State Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism Furukawa Yasushi in Tokyo. They engaged in extensive discussions aimed at strengthening ties with Japan.

During the meeting, Chief Minister Sarma emphasized the importance of promoting tourism as a means to foster prosperity and deepen the amicable relationship between Assam and Japan.

Sarma highlighted various attractions in Assam, including Charaideo Moidams, Kaziranga, and the lush tea gardens, along with expansive golf courses, all of which present a wealth of untapped potential for Japanese tourists.

Additionally, the Chief Minister met with Japan’s State Minister for Justice, Komura Masahiro, where they shared insights on the common values and cultural ties that connect India and Japan.

He notably remarked on the significance of Gautam Buddha's ideals as a spiritual link between the communities of Assam and Japan.

Reflecting on Netaji’s historical visit to Japan and his endeavors to secure support against colonial rule, the Chief Minister acknowledged Netaji’s profound contributions to India's history.

Sarma also visited the historic Hiroshima Peace Memorial, where he paid his respects to the victims of the Hiroshima bombing by laying a wreath. He further honored Mahatma Gandhi at the Peace Memorial Park, where Gandhi’s bust was unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2023.
