Guwahati, Jan 24 (NationPress) Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to engage with leading industry figures in Japan on Friday, marking the third day of his visit aimed at promoting Assam as a viable investment hub.
CM Sarma has been actively encouraging Japanese investors to participate in the forthcoming investment summit in Guwahati, titled 'Advantage Assam', set for February.
While meeting business leaders in Osaka on Thursday, the CM expressed confidence that Assam is on the brink of becoming the next economic powerhouse in India.
In a post on X, CM Sarma stated, “Assam is positioned to become India’s next economic powerhouse. Our USD $12 billion infrastructure investment initiative presents a significant opportunity for global firms. In 2024, we secured a private investment of USD $4 billion, the highest to date.”
He emphasized that the Japanese business community shows a keen interest in investing in India and holds Prime Minister Narendra Modi in high regard. “I was excited to witness the enthusiasm among Japan’s business community towards India and the immense respect for the leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister. On behalf of the people of Assam, I have extended an invitation to Osaka’s dynamic business sector to participate in #AdvantageAssam2,” remarked CM Sarma, noting that the state government has set an ambitious goal to elevate Assam’s GSDP to over USD $140 billion within the next five years.
“During my discussions with over 80 business leaders, I shared our objective to increase Assam’s GSDP to USD $143 billion by 2030,” he posted on X.
The Chief Minister expressed eagerness to collaborate with a prominent Japanese firm for a forthcoming semiconductor manufacturing unit in Assam. He mentioned, “During my visit to the Micron Memory facility today, I interacted with Mr. Joshua Lee, the company’s Vice President, and invited them to be part of Assam’s semiconductor development narrative. Jagiroad’s Electronic Township is on the verge of becoming a global semiconductor hub, and companies like Micron, a leader in FAB technology, can significantly enhance our semiconductor value chain.”
