Patna, Jan 22 (NationPress) In a swift move to enforce discipline, the Janata Dal (United) has removed its state unit leader in Manipur, Virendra Singh, following his withdrawal of support from the BJP-led government in the region.
Addressing the situation, JD(U) national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan rejected speculations regarding the party's exit from the NDA government in Manipur.
He reiterated that JD(U) is firmly committed to the ruling coalition in Manipur. Ranjan remarked, “There are misleading reports circulating about the JD(U) unit in Manipur. I want to clarify that our party shall continue to back the NDA government in Manipur. The state president was dismissed due to charges of indiscipline. Our support for the NDA government will persist as it always has.”
Ranjan further affirmed JD(U)’s dedication to bolstering the NDA alliance. “JD(U) has persistently worked to fortify the NDA, not only in Manipur but also in Bihar and across the nation. We will carry on with this commitment as we move ahead,” Ranjan added.
The JD(U) spokesperson also addressed concerns regarding the party’s position in Manipur, confirming that the only JD(U) MLA in the state, Mohammad Abdul Nasir, will continue to support Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s NDA government.
“Earlier, there were six JD(U) MLAs in Manipur, but five of them have joined the BJP. Currently, only one MLA, Mohammad Abdul Nasir, remains with JD(U), and his support for the NDA government will endure,” the spokesperson assured.
Neeraj Kumar, JD(U) MLC and spokesperson, reiterated the party’s strong partnership with the BJP-led NDA on both central and state levels. Discussing the controversy surrounding the party’s Manipur unit, Kumar stated, “JD(U) is a crucial partner of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre. In Bihar, the NDA government operates smoothly under Nitish Kumar’s leadership. There are no fractures between the BJP and JD(U).”
These statements follow the disciplinary action taken against JD(U)’s Manipur state president, Virendra Singh, after he improperly submitted a letter to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, withdrawing support from the NDA government.
Kumar clarified, “The state president acted beyond his authority, prompting the party to take stringent disciplinary action against him.” The action against Virendra Singh underscores JD(U)’s dedication to upholding party discipline and its alliance with the BJP-led NDA nationwide.
