On the night of January 1, Suraj was brutally assaulted with swords, sticks, and various sharp instruments, leading to heightened tensions in the area. He succumbed to his injuries immediately, while Kuldeep Soni, who tried to step in, suffered severe injuries.

This incident ignited widespread anger, prompting hundreds to march on January 2, carrying the victim’s body and demanding swift justice.

Hazaribagh Superintendent of Police Anjani Anjan stated that the murder stemmed from revenge after a confrontation regarding the loud music in the city’s Kolghati area.

The police reported that the assailants confronted Suraj near Indrapuri Chowk around 10 p.m. on January 1. A murder case was initiated at the Lohsinghna police station following a formal complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Kajal Kumari.

Due to the serious nature of the case, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was established under the SP’s guidance. Utilizing technical intelligence, the SIT conducted raids across multiple locations including Delhi, Noida, Bhilai, Chatra, Ramgarh, Ranchi, and Barkagaon.

The key suspects -- Rahul Kumar, Roshan Kumar, and Deepak Kumar -- were captured in Sector-126, Noida and subsequently transported back to Hazaribagh on transit remand.

Through their confessions, four additional suspects -- Sonu Kumar, Rahul alias Lolo, Aman Kumar alias Rohan, and Mukesh Kumar -- were detained in Pipradih village within the jurisdiction of the Barkagaon police station. Another suspect was later caught in the Kolghati area.

The police confirmed that substantial evidence has been gathered against all suspects, and they are in the process of transferring them to judicial custody. The weapons used in the attack, including swords and sticks, have also been recovered.
