Ranchi, June 26 (NationPress) Union Minister and prominent BJP figure Giriraj Singh criticized both the Congress party for the Emergency imposition in 1975 and the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government for the alleged influx of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas into the state.
During a press conference at the Jharkhand BJP headquarters, Singh remarked that the Soren administration has effectively transformed regions of the state into a 'Jamai Tola' (a term referencing areas reportedly occupied by illegal immigrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar), which he claims threatens the very existence and identity of Jharkhand’s indigenous tribal communities.
“The nation engaged in a second war of independence during the Emergency enforced by Indira Gandhi in 1975. Today, Jharkhand necessitates a third war of independence to free itself from this ‘Jamai Tola’ of Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators,” Singh asserted.
He urged the youth of Jharkhand to champion this 'fight for liberation', alleging that the Soren government is endangering national security and tribal rights merely for vote-bank politics.
Reflecting on the Emergency, Singh emphasized that today’s youth should not forget this dark phase in Indian democracy.
“There are 105 crore Indians below the age of 50, many of whom are unaware that we once had a Prime Minister named Indira Gandhi who undermined democracy. After the courts ruled against her, she imposed an unconstitutional Emergency, incarcerating over two lakh political workers without trial. More than 25,000 government employees were dismissed, and countless individuals faced forced sterilizations,” he explained.
He further accused Indira Gandhi of ascending to power through dynastic politics, stating, “Dynasty and democracy can never coexist.”
Singh criticized the Congress for seeking religious support while being responsible for religious oppression during the Emergency. “Currently, fatwas are being issued from mosques supporting the Congress, yet it was Indira Gandhi who targeted both temples and mosques during the Emergency. Approximately 77,000 individuals were forcibly removed from mosque premises during that period,” he claimed.
He called for an apology from the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge for what he termed the party's 'dictatorial past' and its efforts to 'mislead the populace.'
