Kolkata, Oct 21 (NationPress) The niece of RG Kar rape and murder convict Sanjay Roy tragically passed away just a day after being discovered unconscious inside a cupboard in a residence located in the Alipore area of Kolkata, as confirmed by police on Tuesday.

Authorities reported that the 11-year-old was found hanging in a cupboard at Vidyasagar Colony under the jurisdiction of the Alipore police station on Sunday evening. She was immediately taken to SSKM Hospital for medical attention, but sadly, she succumbed to her injuries on Monday.

This shocking incident has stirred considerable unrest within the community. Investigators are currently probing whether the young girl may have taken her own life or if foul play was involved.

A senior officer from the Kolkata Police stated, "We are looking into every possibility. The precise cause of death will be determined once we receive the autopsy results. An unnatural death case has been registered at the local Alipore police station in light of these events."

It has been revealed that no one was present at the home during the occurrence. Reports indicate that the girl's mother, who was the sister of Sanjay Roy, had committed suicide several years prior, after which the girl's father married his sister-in-law.

The minor was under the care of her aunt, who had stepped out to purchase firecrackers on the evening of the incident.

Local residents informed authorities that the household often experienced domestic disputes. On the fateful day, when the aunt returned and received no reply from the girl despite her repeated calls, she forced the door open.

Initially, she could not locate the child, but upon opening the cupboard, she discovered the young girl hanging and unconscious.

Emergency services were immediately contacted, and the child was transported to the hospital. Unfortunately, after being pronounced dead on Monday, the body was sent for an autopsy.

Following preliminary inquiries, police suspect the possibility of suicide, while also not dismissing the chance of homicide. No formal complaint has been lodged by the family to date.

According to locals, the student had been experiencing significant mental distress due to frequent reprimands from her aunt and father.

The child's paternal grandmother expressed her grief, stating, "They lived separately and barred me from entering their home. I was unaware of her situation. How could an 11-year-old girl take such a drastic step? Her mother had previously committed suicide, and then my son married his sister-in-law."

In a related incident, the body of a post-graduate trainee was discovered in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 last year, with Sanjay Roy being the sole convict, currently serving a life sentence at the Presidency Correctional Home.
