Kolkata, March 28 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a three-page status update on the R.G. Kar rape and murder case at a special court in Kolkata on Friday.

This report was presented in the very court that recently sentenced the sole perpetrator, Sanjay Roy, to life imprisonment.

The ongoing proceedings now focus on the CBI’s next phase of investigation, specifically regarding potential evidence tampering and alterations that occurred during the initial investigation conducted by the Kolkata Police.

Following the report submission, the CBI's legal representative informed the court that statements from additional witnesses have recently been documented.

The details of these statements are included in the status report.

The CBI's counsel also mentioned that the call logs of three individuals are currently being examined by investigators, and additional CCTV footage from R.G. Kar has been secured.

On the same day, the victim's parents' attorney highlighted that “default bail” was granted to two accused involved in evidence tampering: the former principal of R.G. Kar, Sandip Ghosh, and the former SHO of Tala Police station, who are required to attend future court sessions.

However, neither Ghosh nor Mondal appeared in court for the subsequent hearings.

The judge then ordered that both Ghosh and Mondal must be present for the next hearing scheduled on April 16.

Though both Ghosh and Mondal were arrested on charges of tampering with evidence, they were granted “default bail” because the CBI did not file a supplementary charge sheet within the stipulated 90 days.

Additionally, the judge instructed the CBI to submit another status report detailing the investigation's progress by April 28.
