Final Arguments to be Presented in RG Kar Case by CBI

Kolkata, Jan 9 (NationPress) The trial proceedings in the heinous rape and murder of a female doctor associated with R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, which took place in August of the previous year, are approaching their final stages. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will commence its final arguments at a special court here on Thursday.
The final arguments from the defense counsel representing Sanjay Roy, the sole prime accused in this tragic case, were concluded on Wednesday.
Following the CBI's final arguments, the victim’s parents' counsel will present their case.
According to sources, once the final arguments from both the CBI and the victim's family are completed, the defense counsel will have an opportunity to briefly contest the CBI's final arguments.
Upon the conclusion of this entire process, the judge of the special court will invite the counsels of the three parties to deliver their concluding statements, marking the end of the trial proceedings. Subsequently, the court will move on to the conviction phase and the announcement of the sentence.
Due to the nature of the trial, which is held in-camera behind closed doors, there is no opportunity for external reporting or knowledge of the specific arguments made during the proceedings.
Aside from the involved parties and their legal representatives, no other individuals, including the media, are permitted to attend the courtroom during the trial.
The CBI has submitted a single charge sheet thus far, identifying Sanjay Roy as the “sole prime accused” in the case. During their investigation, CBI officials detained Sandip Ghosh, the former and controversial principal of R.G. Kar, along with Abhijit Mondal, the former SHO of Tala Police Station, on allegations of evidence tampering. However, both individuals were recently granted “default bail” by the special court due to the CBI's failure to file a supplementary charge sheet against them within 90 days of their arrests.
