Kolkata, Jan 20 (NationPress) Just hours ahead of the Special Court in Kolkata announcing the sentence for civic volunteer Sanjay Roy, the only convict in the heinous rape and murder of a female doctor from the state-run R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, the victim's father expressed his demand for the harshest possible punishment for the perpetrator.

“Before the sentence is declared today, the judge will allow the convict to share his thoughts. He requested to speak on January 20, the day he was found guilty. The judge consented to this request. I am uncertain about what Roy will say at this point or its potential impact. However, our wish is clear: we seek the utmost punishment for him,” the victim’s father stated to reporters in the morning.

He further claimed that the state authorities are protecting others who orchestrated this tragedy alongside Roy.

“While Roy is certainly the perpetrator, there are others involved in the conspiracy. The administration has been attempting to shield them from the very beginning,” he added.

The victim’s mother, who was with him, speculated that Roy likely remained quiet for an extended period because he was reassured by someone regarding a possible bail.

On January 18, the judge had already indicated that the most severe punishment in this case could be the death penalty, while the least could be life imprisonment.

The special court's proceedings are set to commence on Monday around noon. Initially, the judge will permit both Roy and the victim's parents to deliver their final statements. Following this, the judge will announce the verdict in the case.

While the sentencing process for Roy's rape and murder case will conclude on Monday, investigations by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) concerning allegations of evidence tampering will remain ongoing.
