R.G. Kar Case: Witness Statements Recorded, Final Arguments Commence Today

Kolkata, Jan 4 (NationPress) The process of recording witness statements has concluded in the case concerning the rape and murder of a female junior doctor from R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital in Kolkata. Final arguments and counter-arguments are scheduled to begin today at a special court in the city.

According to sources, the forthcoming discussions will primarily involve the legal representatives of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the principal accused, Sanjay Roy, a former civic volunteer affiliated with Kolkata Police.

Media access will be restricted during this session, as it was previously determined that the entire trial proceedings would be conducted in-camera, allowing only those directly involved and their legal representatives into the courtroom.

Reports indicate that the CBI has already presented its investigation findings to the special court.

Legal experts believe that a key element during the arguments will be the latest findings from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL), which has cast significant doubt on the established 'scene of crime'.

The victim's body was discovered in the seminar hall at R.G. Kar on the morning of August 9 last year.

Initially, the Kolkata Police and subsequently the CBI treated this seminar hall as the 'scene of crime'.

However, the recently released CSFL report, which is available to IANS, explicitly states that there is no scientific evidence to support the occurrence of a struggle within the seminar room.

This report has bolstered suspicions from a segment of the medical community in the state, suggesting that the actual 'scene of crime' may have been located elsewhere, with the body moved to the seminar hall to mislead future investigations.

The CFSL also highlighted that the confidentiality of the post-mortem process was severely compromised, and standard protocols were disregarded.

While the report does not dismiss the possibility of a single perpetrator, it encourages further examination based on various previous scientific reports by specialists in similar cases, which may help determine if more than one individual was involved.
