Kolkata, March 6 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials, who are investigating the shocking rape and murder of a junior doctor from R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital, have identified significant inconsistencies between the prior statements provided by some members of the Kolkata Police and the circumstantial evidence that the central agency has gathered later on.

According to sources, CBI officials have initiated new rounds of questioning for the officers who provided contradictory statements.

A total of 11 police officers linked to the local Tata Police Station and the police outpost at R. G. Kar are being interrogated in stages.

It was noted that many of these police officers were initially questioned in October of the previous year, merely two months after the victim's body was discovered in the seminar hall on the hospital grounds in August.

However, during the ongoing investigation, particularly regarding evidence tampering and alerting the case, the CBI has uncovered circumstantial evidence that raises doubts about the credibility of the statements recorded from the police in October.

The CBI is anticipated to submit its supplementary charge sheet to a special court in Kolkata this month, elaborating on various facets of the evidence tampering issue.

The officials are relying on the available circumstantial evidence and the documented statements from the city police to fortify their arguments in the supplementary charge sheet.

The next hearing for this case is set for March 17 at the Supreme Court of India, and the central agency is striving to present the supplementary charge sheet to the special court in Kolkata prior to that date.

To recap, the CBI previously arrested the controversial former principal of R. G. Kar, Sandip Ghosh, along with the former SHO of Tala Police Station, Abhijit Mondal, on accusations of tampering with and modifying evidence during the initial investigation conducted by the city police.

However, both individuals were granted default bail, as CBI officials were unable to file a supplementary charge sheet against them within the 90-day period following their arrests.

Now, it remains to be seen who will be included in the upcoming supplementary charge sheet, which is expected to be filed soon.
