Kolkata, March 3 (NationPress) The supplementary charge sheet in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case, which the CBI is anticipated to file at a special court in Kolkata this month, will illuminate the broader motive behind the crime, in addition to revealing details on the tampering and modification of evidence during the initial investigation conducted by Kolkata Police, sources disclosed on Monday.

To substantiate this ‘broader motive of crime,’ the officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are significantly relying on the testimonies of police personnel stationed at the local Tala Police Station and the police outpost at R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital on the night of the crime in August of last year, particularly the directives received from their senior officials on the morning of August 9, when the body of the female doctor was found in a seminar hall within the hospital grounds.

The CBI has summoned 11 police officers who were assigned to the Tala Police Station and the R.G. Kar outpost for questioning during this week.

Sources familiar with the situation indicated that the testimonies from these 11 officers will be vital in elucidating the ‘broader motive behind the crime’ in the supplementary charge sheet.

Apart from extracting insights regarding the directives received by these officers from their superiors, sources added that investigators will also look for other information, such as whether anything unusual was observed on the night of the offense or after the victim's body was recovered, and if there were any suspicious behaviors by outsiders within the police station and hospital at that time.

The next hearing on the R.G. Kar rape and murder case is scheduled at the Supreme Court on March 17, and the CBI officials are striving to submit the supplementary charge sheet at the special court in Kolkata prior to that date.

Recently, the parents of the victim traveled to Delhi and held an extensive meeting with CBI Director Praveen Sood regarding the investigation's progress. The parents reported that the CBI director assured them of achieving justice and urged them to remain patient.

To recap, the CBI previously arrested Sandip Ghosh, the former and controversial principal of R.G. Kar, and Abhijit Mondal, the former SHO of Tala Police Station, on accusations of tampering with and altering evidence during the initial investigation by the city police.

However, both individuals were granted default bail as CBI officials failed to submit a supplementary charge sheet against them within 90 days of their arrests.
