Have the Kolkata Police and CBI Handled the RG Kar Case Adequately?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 17 (NationPress) The parents of the junior doctor from R. G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, who tragically fell victim to a heinous rape and murder within the hospital grounds in August 2024, made a renewed appeal in a trial court on Tuesday. They seek a thorough examination of the actions taken by the Kolkata Police and, subsequently, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) regarding their investigation into the case.
The victim's parents have urged the court to consider whether any political pressures influenced the investigation process.
The trial court has agreed to hear their appeals in the coming days.
On Tuesday afternoon, the victim's parents, accompanied by their attorney, presented their case at the trial court located in Sealdah. They argued that certain elements of the investigations conducted by both the Kolkata Police and the CBI warrant a re-evaluation.
"Thus, we have approached the trial court with this appeal. The judge has consented to hear our case in the near future," stated the victim's father.
This is the same court that, in 2004, sentenced the sole convict in this case, Sanjay Roy, a former civic volunteer associated with the Kolkata Police, to life imprisonment.
The CBI is currently probing the possibility of a broader conspiracy linked to this crime.
Despite this, the victim's family has consistently voiced their dissatisfaction with the CBI's investigation progress, accusing the agency of neglecting an independent and thorough approach. They claim the CBI has merely reiterated the initial stance of the Kolkata Police, which identified Roy as the only perpetrator.
This case of rape and murder is also concurrently under review at the Calcutta High Court.
