Kolkata, Feb 19 (NationPress) The father of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder victim expressed his doubts about the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) during a court hearing on Thursday. He voiced his concerns regarding the investigation's current status and progress.

After the hearing at the Sealdah court, he told reporters that he felt it was a poor decision to assign the case to the CBI. “The CBI has merely continued the investigative trail laid down by the Kolkata Police,” he stated.

He accused the agency of neglecting specific requests from the victim's family and claimed that they had insisted that not all arrests could be made without proper justification.

During the court session, the victim's family alleged that the CBI was involved in a “larger conspiracy” and demanded further inquiries into both the CBI and the Kolkata Police's actions. They also called for the arrest of certain junior doctors, who were reportedly among the last individuals to see the victim prior to the incident.

The victim’s father reiterated his earlier concerns regarding Sudipta Roy, a Trinamool Congress MLA from Serampore and Chairman of the RG Kar Hospital Patient Welfare Committee, alleging that despite investigations into financial misconduct, he faced no repercussions connected to this case.

The family had previously approached the court to seek the arrest of police officer Anup Dutta, who has been implicated in the case. During the recent hearing, their lawyer claimed that Sanjay Roy, who was found guilty in the rape and murder case, had visited the hospital that night on Anup Dutta's orders.

The family also demanded the public release of the video recording from Anup Dutta's polygraph test and questioned why his involvement had not been thoroughly investigated.

Additionally, they raised issues about Sudipta Roy's name being left out of the CBI documents presented to the court, despite his statement being recorded during the investigation. They urged the court to push for further scrutiny of the roles played by Sudipta Roy, Anup Dutta, and other involved police personnel.

The tragic incident occurred on the night of August 8, 2024, when a junior doctor was raped and murdered inside the emergency area of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Following the incident, Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was taken into custody.

Initially, the Kolkata Police managed the investigation and apprehended the suspect. Later, the Calcutta High Court ordered the CBI to take over the investigation and hold the accused. The CBI subsequently filed a charge sheet in the Sealdah court, identifying Sanjay Roy as the sole accused. He was later convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment.

In January of this year, the CBI presented its eighth status report on the investigation's progression. However, the victim's family challenged the report's findings, claiming it lacked significant updates.

The family's attorney also highlighted procedural concerns regarding the investigation, including the scope of witness questioning. The CBI clarified that witness examination decisions were part of their investigative protocol.

During Thursday’s proceedings, the CBI accused the victim's family of not cooperating with the investigation. The agency's attorney also questioned whether details from the sealed status report provided to the court could be publicly discussed.
