Kolkata, Aug 15 (NationPress) The parents of the R.G. Kar rape and murder victim have filed a new petition at the Calcutta High Court requesting permission to examine the crime scene.
On Friday, the victim's father stated that he and his wife approached the High Court's single-judge bench led by Justice Tirthankar Ghosh with this request.
However, Justice Ghosh, who is currently overseeing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the case, declined to address the plea regarding the crime scene survey.
Instead, he suggested that the couple seek permission from the trial court in Kolkata, where a concurrent hearing on the CBI probe is taking place.
Following this, the victim's parents submitted their request to the trial court for the survey of the crime scene.
Unfortunately, on July 9, the trial court dismissed their petition, reasoning that permitting the parents to investigate the scene would lead to a parallel inquiry.
Currently, the victim's parents have approached a different single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court, presided over by Justice Jay Sengupta, with a renewed request to survey the crime scene.
This new plea has been accepted, and it is scheduled for discussion next week.
The body of the young female doctor was discovered in a seminar hall at R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital on the morning of August 9, 2024.
The investigation initially began with the Kolkata Police but was later transferred to the CBI following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.
This tragic incident has resonated nationwide, sparking extensive protest movements.
Last year, the trial court in Kolkata sentenced Sanjay Roy, the sole convict in the rape and murder case, to life imprisonment.
