Kolkata, March 20 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court is set to commence hearings next week regarding the plea submitted by the parents of the R.G. Kar rape and murder victim, who are contesting the investigation's progress into this heinous crime.

Following a recent Supreme Court ruling that allows for concurrent hearings, the parents' attorney approached Justice Tirthankar Ghosh's single-judge bench on Thursday.

The case is anticipated to be revisited on either March 24 or the following day, according to court sources. The petition filed on behalf of the victim’s family addresses concerns over the investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Previously, when the victim’s parents sought a hearing from Justice Ghosh, he was hesitant to proceed since the Supreme Court was already reviewing the case.

Justice Ghosh noted that without the Supreme Court’s approval, he could not move forward with the hearing.

Now that the Supreme Court has granted permission for parallel hearings at both the High Court and a special court in Kolkata, the case is poised for further examination.

The remains of the young female doctor were discovered in a seminar hall at the R.G. Kar Medical College & Hospital on the morning of August 9 last year.

The initial investigation was carried out by a special team from the Kolkata Police, which led to the arrest of the sole suspect in the case, civic volunteer Sanjay Roy. However, the case was later transferred to the CBI following a directive from the Calcutta High Court.

Recently, a special court found Roy guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Nevertheless, the CBI has appealed this verdict in the Calcutta High Court, requesting the death penalty.

Currently, the CBI is probing allegations of evidence tampering and alteration during the early stages of the Kolkata Police investigation and is expected to file a supplementary charge sheet shortly.
