Kolkata, Oct 21 (NationPress) The initial autopsy findings regarding the 11-year-old niece of RG Kar rape and murder convict Sanjay Roy suggest that her death was a result of suicide, as reported by the police on Tuesday evening.
The autopsy results pointed towards suicide based on collected evidence, including hanging marks on her neck.
Nonetheless, the minor's grandmother voiced serious doubts regarding the claim that her granddaughter took her own life.
"She is just 11 years old. How could she possibly hang herself? I was prohibited from entering her room. All her toys are still neatly arranged in there. I find it hard to believe she would have done this," the grandmother shared with reporters.
The niece of Sanjay Roy tragically passed away a day after being discovered in a cupboard in an unconscious state within a home in Kolkata's Alipore region, as informed by the police on Tuesday.
The police stated that the young girl was found hanging inside a cupboard in Vidyasagar Colony under the Alipore police jurisdiction on Sunday evening. She was immediately taken to SSKM Hospital for treatment, but unfortunately, she succumbed on Monday.
This incident has caused quite a stir in the neighborhood, prompting an investigation into whether the minor truly committed suicide or if there was an attempt on her life.
A senior officer from the Kolkata Police mentioned on Tuesday, "All angles are being examined. The exact cause of death will be determined once the autopsy report is finalized. A case of unnatural death has been opened at the local Alipore police station in connection with this incident."
It has been revealed that no one was present at the home during the incident. The police learned that the girl's mother, who was the sister of the convict Sanjay Roy, had also taken her own life a few years ago. Following this, the girl's father remarried his sister-in-law.
Until this incident, the young girl was being cared for by her aunt, who had stepped out to purchase firecrackers on Sunday evening when the tragedy struck.
Residents in the area reported that domestic issues were not uncommon within the household. On the day of the event, when the deceased's aunt returned and received no response despite calling out repeatedly, she forced her way into the home.
Initially unable to locate the girl, she eventually discovered her hanging in an unconscious state inside the cupboard.
The police were notified immediately. The minor was rescued and rushed to the hospital, but after being declared dead on Monday, the authorities sent her body for an autopsy.
Local residents alleged that the student was experiencing mental strain due to frequent reprimands from her aunt and father.
On August 9 of the previous year, the remains of a post-graduate trainee were found in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The sole perpetrator, Sanjay Roy, has already been sentenced to life imprisonment and is currently incarcerated at Presidency Correctional Home.
