Jaipur, Sep 19 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, Tika Ram Jully, has expressed significant alarm regarding the newly announced delimitation of wards within the Jaipur Municipal Corporation. He asserts that this initiative is politically driven and intends to undermine democratic representation in areas where opposition holds power.
In his remarks, Jully characterized the delimitation as a “scheme designed to align with political interests” orchestrated by the BJP-led state administration. He emphasized that the choice to merge two municipal corporations in Jaipur and diminish the number of wards was influenced by political motives rather than administrative logic.
“The state government has executed this delimitation by merging two municipal corporations of Jaipur for its own political benefit. Regardless of whether this helps the BJP, ordinary citizens will undoubtedly encounter difficulties,” Jully remarked. He noted that as Jaipur expands, the reduction in wards is impractical.
The recent delimitation has resulted in substantial changes to over 15 wards, particularly where the BJP experienced significant electoral setbacks. Jully claimed that the BJP is following a covert agenda that threatens to compromise the constitutional integrity of the nation.
“As the city grows swiftly, the number of wards should not be decreased. Such actions will only lead to governance hurdles and limit access to civic services for the public,” he stated.
He highlighted that more than 15 wards from the previous Heritage Municipal Corporation, where the BJP faced electoral defeats, have seen major boundary alterations. According to Jully, this maneuver disproportionately impacts areas represented by the Congress party.
Jully further criticized the unbalanced distribution of wards across assembly constituencies, noting that out of the ten constituencies within the Jaipur Municipal Corporation, the three represented by Congress MLAs have only 28 wards, while the remaining constituencies, represented by BJP MLAs, encompass 122 wards under the new delimitation.
“This is a blatant effort to diminish representation in opposition-dominated areas and skew the representation towards the ruling party,” he asserted.
In a detailed breakdown, Jully pointed out that Adarsh Nagar has been cut from 25 to 17 wards, Kishanpole from 21 to 12, and Hawamahal from 26 to 15.
He labeled the decision as unfair and undemocratic, urging both civil society and democratic entities to voice their opposition.
“This issue transcends urban governance; it’s a calculated political maneuver that threatens the very essence of local democracy,” Jully concluded.
