Has the Rajasthan LoP Exposed Misuse of Constitutional Institutions?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 16 (NationPress) The Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajasthan Assembly, Tika Ram Jully, a seasoned Congress figure, fiercely criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led state administration on Friday, asserting that deception and illusion have become the hallmark of the BJP, with constitutional institutions being exploited for electoral advantages.
While addressing the press, LoP Jully characterized the BJP's 'VB-G RAM G' public outreach initiative as merely a "deception aimed at misleading the populace", contending that the party's priority lies not in public welfare but in securing electoral victories by distorting programs and institutions meant for the citizenry.
Jully raised significant alarms regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), accusing the BJP of attempting to eliminate the names of Congress-supporting voters from the electoral rolls.
He stated, "Thanks to the vigilance of Congress activists, this scheme was thwarted," expressing concern that the Election Commission now seems to be complicit in these actions.
The LoP questioned the rationale behind the extension of the deadline for filing objections under the SIR, labeling it a calculated effort to provide the BJP "a second chance to manipulate the voter list".
He called it a conspiracy against democracy.
Additionally, the LoP condemned the removal of Mahatma Gandhi's name from MGNREGA, highlighting it as indicative of the BJP's narrow political mindset.
He noted that the UPA government, under Sonia Gandhi's guidance, had granted the legal right to employment to millions of impoverished families, while the BJP aims to gain political mileage by renaming initiatives and invoking Lord Ram for electoral gain.
Describing the BJP's assertion of providing 125 days of employment as misleading, LoP Jully remarked that the VB-G RAM G scheme had already been enacted during the previous Congress administration under Ashok Gehlot.
He accused the BJP of misrepresenting it as their own success and claimed that the introduction of a 60-day break rule is a tactic to deny laborers their rightful earnings.
Mocking the renaming of the Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project (ERCP) to 'Ram Jal Setu', LoP Jully stated, "Lord Ram belongs to everyone, yet the BJP has reduced him to a political instrument."
He further emphasized that merely altering names will not address the needs of the populace and reminded that despite holding power at the national level, the BJP has failed to bestow national project status on the ERCP.
As he marked two years in his role as Leader of the Opposition in Rajasthan, Congress leader Jully expressed gratitude to the state's citizens and reaffirmed his commitment to voicing public issues from the streets to the Assembly.
"I will always act as a protector of democracy and the rights and dignity of every Rajasthani," he declared.
