Bengaluru, Sep 5 (NationPress) In a jubilant expression of support for the newly introduced simplified GST system by the Central government, the BJP's Karnataka chapter hosted a festive gathering on Friday outside their state headquarters, Jagannath Bhavan. Firecrackers lit up the sky as attendees chanted slogans in admiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.
Prominent figures at the event included Legislative Council opposition chief whip N. Ravikumar, BJP state general secretaries Nandish Reddy and J. Preetham Gowda, Legislative Council member D.S. Arun, former member Captain Ganesh Karnik, state Mahila Morcha president K. Manjula, along with various state office bearers, district presidents, and dedicated party workers.
Earlier, in his remarks praising the GST reforms initiated by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Karnataka BJP President and MLA B.Y. Vijayendra noted: "These reforms aim to simplify the lives of everyday citizens and enhance the business landscape for small enterprises."
Vijayendra further remarked: "The government, under the leadership of the esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is propelling the nation towards development while tackling global adversities. Simultaneously, it has introduced numerous initiatives to economically empower the most marginalized groups in society. This approach is actively realizing the vision of a self-sufficient and developed India."
He expressed congratulations to the government on behalf of the citizens, stating that the new GST rates are akin to a Diwali and Dussehra gift, asserting that "reducing taxes is our priority, not increasing them."
Supporting the GST reforms, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who also oversees the Finance portfolio, stated, "We applaud the GST Council's decision to rationalize GST rates, marking a significant step toward alleviating both the financial and compliance burdens on citizens and businesses."
In a statement released on Friday, CM Siddaramaiah underscored that "this decision is not a new revelation but a long-overdue acknowledgment of what Shri Rahul Gandhi, opposition leaders, and states governed by opposition have been advocating since 2016-2017, when the Prime Minister Modi administration hastily implemented a flawed GST system."
