The tragic event involves four family members, including two women, who tragically drowned in the canal on Sunday. The first body was retrieved on Tuesday.

Search operations commenced promptly with personnel from local police, fire and emergency services, along with expert diving teams.

As per police reports, the deceased have been identified as Neela Bai, her son Ravi, her daughter Shwetha, and her son-in-law Parashuram. It appears that Neela Bai fell into the canal while she was washing clothes near the bank, leading the other three to drown while attempting to save her.

Shwetha had visited her mother’s home with her husband to celebrate the Mari festival.

After three days of searching, Ravi’s body was found in a decomposed condition, with his last rites conducted on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Neela Bai’s body was recovered approximately one kilometer from where she had fallen into the canal.

Shivamogga Rural MLA Sharada Pooryanaik visited the site, urging officials to minimize the water flow until all bodies are recovered. A case has been logged at the Holehonnur police station.
