New Delhi, Oct 28 (NationPress) During the 127th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the significance of India’s coffee, celebrating its rising popularity both domestically and internationally.
In his monthly radio address, he acknowledged several key coffee-producing areas such as Odisha’s Koraput, Karnataka’s Chikmagalur, Coorg, and Hassan, along with Tamil Nadu’s Pulney, Shevaroy, Nilgiri, and Annamalai, and Kerala’s Wayanad, Travancore, and Malabar. He commended the hard work of coffee farmers in these regions for enhancing India’s reputation in the global beverage market.
The Prime Minister’s acknowledgment of Chikmagalur, Coorg, and Hassan in Karnataka has sparked excitement among local coffee growers, workers, and traders.
Many expressed their happiness in conversations with IANS, feeling elated to receive commendation directly from the Prime Minister.
They described their pride in knowing that the essence of Karnataka’s coffee is resonating on international platforms.
Local resident Kabaddi Chethan remarked, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioning Chikmagalur and Coorg coffee in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program fills us with pride. This is a monumental moment for our region as our coffee gains global recognition.”
Rajendra, an Estate Manager in the coffee plantations, stated, “From the misty hills of Karnataka, the fragrance of coffee is now reaching far and wide across the country. The mention by PM Modi in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has instilled a renewed sense of pride and hope among local farmers and workers.”
Dr. MM Chengappa, a coffee planter, expressed delight over the recognition but also raised concerns about unpredictable weather patterns impacting coffee production.
“The fluctuating weather is posing challenges to the coffee industry. The heavy rainfall in October has resulted in significant weed proliferation, compelling us to engage additional labor. With more rain anticipated in December, the maintenance costs are expected to escalate further.”
