Mandya (Karnataka), Nov 22 (NationPress) In the escalating leadership conflict within the Karnataka Congress, another party MLA has publicly shown support for Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar to assume the role of chief minister. He emphasized the importance of the high command adhering to any prior power-sharing agreements made with Shivakumar.
During a press interaction, Mandya MLA Ravi Ganiga expressed that a suitable moment would present itself for this transition, highlighting the necessity to respect the commitments that were allegedly given to the state Congress president concerning the chief ministerial position. He clarified that this opinion was his own.
“There is an opportune time and context for such a transition. If a promise regarding power-sharing was made to the deputy chief minister, it ought to be fulfilled. Both Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar will abide by whatever decision the high command makes,” he noted.
“From the outset, I have asserted that Shivakumar should be appointed as the chief minister. I also believe that when the right moment arrives, he will indeed take on the role,” Ganiga stated.
The Mandya MLA praised Shivakumar’s significant contributions and dedication to the party, expressing that his desire for Shivakumar's rise was genuine.
When questioned about a potential timeline, he suggested that Shivakumar could assume the chief minister role at any moment. He acknowledged that Siddaramaiah is performing admirably, fulfilling his commitments, and has implemented guarantee schemes for the citizens of Karnataka.
Ganiga emphasized that the ultimate decision lies with the high command, and both leaders will accept whatever the national leadership decides.
He indicated that he does not identify himself as part of Shivakumar’s faction, similar to how PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi does not claim to be aligned with Siddaramaiah’s faction.
“The Congress in Karnataka remains unified, supported by 140 MLAs, and all legislators stand behind both Siddaramaiah and Shivakumar. The two leaders are coordinating well and maintain cordial relations, even though media portrayals may suggest otherwise,” he asserted.
He also mentioned that the high command will eventually clarify the uncertainty surrounding the leadership situation and expressed optimism for a prompt decision.
In response to inquiries about the alleged assurance made to Shivakumar during the establishment of the Congress government, he remarked, “If such a promise exists, it should be honored, although the specifics are not fully known.”
He added that a fitting and favorable time would eventually come.
Meanwhile, Shivakumar’s supporters conducted a special puja in Pavagada town in Tumakuru district, praying for his ascension to the chief ministerial position.
Congress leaders who had traveled to Delhi are returning to Bengaluru. Agriculture Minister N. Cheluvarayaswamy returned on Thursday night.
Shivakumar’s family also performed a special puja at their residence on Thursday night. Shivakumar offered prayers to the divine sandals (paduka) of Siddeshwara Swamiji of Jenukal Siddeshwara Mutt near Arasikere in Hassan district. This development has garnered attention in political circles, as numerous devotees believe that special worship of the divine sandals of Siddeshwara Swamiji leads to the fulfillment of wishes.
