Bengaluru, Feb 6 (NationPress) Karnataka has established itself as the forefront state in the nation for agricultural advancements and support for farmers, as highlighted by State Agriculture Minister N. Chaluvarayaswamy. During the inauguration of the three-day International Agriculture Fair and the state-level Agriculture Scientist and award distribution event at Palace Grounds, the Minister underscored the various initiatives adopted by the state government aimed at empowering farmers and enhancing agricultural productivity.

He noted that the fair would act as a venue for presenting new schemes and technologies to the public.

Stressing the importance of sustainable farming practices, branding, marketing, and access to credit, Chaluvarayaswamy asserted that farmers could achieve lucrative incomes when these elements are successfully integrated into agriculture.

The Minister pointed out that the government has implemented multiple measures to facilitate the economic empowerment of farmers and inspire them to embrace entrepreneurship, even in urban settings. These initiatives are designed to help farmers create self-employment opportunities and gain better returns from their products.

In the past two-and-a-half years, the state has settled crop insurance claims exceeding Rs 6,000 crore and has provided agricultural machinery valued at over Rs 1,500 crore to farmers, he reported.

Under the Chief Minister's guidance, over 450 high-tech harvest hubs have been established throughout Karnataka, benefiting nearly 40 lakh individuals. He added that SC/ST farmers are receiving subsidies up to Rs 50 lakh.

Chaluvarayaswamy mentioned that the government, under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's leadership, has been instrumental in executing these initiatives while continuously supplying seeds, fertilizers, and other support to farmers over the past two-and-a-half years.

The fair aims to connect farmers with banks and international markets, with participation from farmers across all districts. The goal, he added, is to enhance marketing, value addition, and overall profitability within the agricultural sector.
