Srinagar, March 3 (NationPress) Authorities have enforced restrictions in the Kashmir Valley for the second day in a row, aiming to maintain law and order following recent events in Iran.

The police clarified that these measures are preventive, designed to stop anti-national elements from taking advantage of public emotions.

In Srinagar, both public and vehicular movement is prohibited as police and CRPF forces are heavily deployed at intersections and marketplaces to uphold these restrictions.

To prevent gatherings, barricades made of tin sheets and concertina wire have been set up in the bustling city centre of Lal Chowk.

Similar restrictions are observed across various districts in the Valley, particularly in regions with significant Shia Muslim populations, including Budgam, Magam, Gund Hasibhat, Mirgund, Pattan, and Palhalan.

All schools, colleges, and universities will stay closed today, with Kashmir University postponing scheduled exams, promising to announce new dates soon.

Internet speed has been intentionally reduced throughout the Valley to hinder the uploading of provocative content on social media platforms.

Prominent Shia leaders, such as Maulvi Imran Raza Ansari and Maulvi Masroor Abbas Ansari, have urged their community to express their grief over the killing of Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who was killed in a US-Israeli bombing in Tehran on Saturday, without disturbing public order.

In response, the J&K Police made a strong appeal for the community to maintain peace, warning that any miscreants attempting to disrupt the calm would face strict action.

The police emphasized, “We encourage peaceful expression while condemning incidents of rioting, stone-pelting, and other disruptions. Such acts result in injuries, loss of life, restrictions, and hardship for families, traders, students, and daily workers. We urge all community members to exercise restraint and avoid violence and provocation.”

Additionally, the police reiterated their commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring the safety of life and property.

Point of View

The ongoing restrictions in Kashmir highlight the delicate balance between maintaining public safety and allowing citizens their right to express grief and concern. The authorities' preventive measures aim to curb any potential unrest, reflecting a cautious approach in a historically sensitive region.
