Did Former Left Front Minister Kshiti Goswami's Daughter Join the BJP Ahead of Bengal Assembly Polls?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, Feb 17 (NationPress) Kasturi Goswami, the offspring of the late Left Front Minister Kshiti Goswami, has officially become a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday. She was joined by former National Security Guard (NSG) Commando Dipanjan Chakraborty and retired Central Reserve Police Force officer Biplab Biswas.
The notable figures made their switch to the BJP at the party's Salt Lake office, witnessed by West Bengal BJP President and Rajya Sabha MP Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, and former MP and State BJP General Secretary Locket Chatterjee.
Kshiti Goswami, a leader of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), passed away in 2019. Following her death, her daughter Vasundhara Goswami had aligned herself with the Trinamool Congress.
The ruling Trinamool Congress fielded Vasundhara Goswami from Ward number-96 in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation elections towards the end of 2021, a contest she emerged victorious in.
Now, Kasturi Goswami, another daughter of the deceased Left leader Kshiti Goswami, has embraced the BJP.
There is speculation regarding the possibility of the BJP nominating Kasturi Goswami in the forthcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, slated for earlier this year.
This situation raises questions about the two daughters of a Left leader joining different political factions in the election-bound West Bengal.
Former NSG Commando Dipanjan Chakraborty also formally joined the BJP, having been involved in various public movements, notably concerning the RG Kar rape and murder case.
Biplab Biswas, a winner of Kaun Banega Crorepati 2025, has also joined the BJP. As a retired CRPF officer of the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police, he played a crucial role in operations against Maoist and terrorist insurgencies.
During the joining ceremony, the BJP launched a book titled 'Andhar-er Koto Kotha', which highlights what the party labels as 'Maha Jangal Raj' in West Bengal. BJP leaders stated that the book compiles facts and incidents related to law and order, corruption, political violence, and administrative failures in the state.
The book aims to present to the public those events that, according to the BJP, showcase the current circumstances in West Bengal.
