Will Kerala Congress(M) Leave the Left Front for the UDF?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 16 (NationPress) The leadership of Kerala Congress(M) has decisively dismissed rumors regarding a potential return to the United Democratic Front (UDF), emphasizing that there is absolutely no scenario in which the party would exit the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Party chairman Jose K. Mani has communicated this stance to senior members, clarifying that any ongoing discussions about switching alliances are unfounded.
As per insider information, Jose K. Mani reminded party leaders that the Kerala Congress (M) had previously been “humiliated and expelled” by the UDF, reinforcing that there is no chance of returning to that political alliance.
He also mentioned that party members would be informed to clear any misunderstandings arising from renewed political chatter.
General Secretary Stephen George of Kerala Congress(M) also dismissed any possibility of altering their political strategy in light of recent local body elections, where the Congress-led UDF achieved a significant victory.
“In times of speculation, it’s vital to remember how our party was treated prior to the 2020 local body elections by the Congress-led UDF. The decision made back then remains unchanged, but people may let their imaginations run wild,” stated George.
Interestingly, following the passing of the party's founder, veteran K.M. Mani—who was also Jose’s father—relations soured with the Congress-led UDF, where they were the third largest ally.
Before the 2020 local body elections, Jose and his faction severed ties with the UDF and have since aligned with the CPI(M)-led Left Front.
The current discussions about a possible return to the Congress are rooted in the disappointing performance of their candidates in their traditional strongholds of Kottayam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki.
It was State Congress President and veteran MLA Sunny Joseph who hinted that Jose and his party could return if they choose.
Despite Jose and George’s firm denial of these unfounded speculations, the party's grassroots members are reportedly dissatisfied under the CPI(M), indicating that the upcoming days will be pivotal for both Jose and the Congress.
